Every year since 2011, beijingkids has produced the School Choice Guide to provide comprehensive and up-to-date school information to our readers. During this time, there have been significant changes not only the sheer number of schools to choose from but also the climate of the quickly growing international education market in the capital. To present these developments clearly, we’ve crunched the numbers to share with you some of these developments along with a brief history of some of the most notable advancements throughout the decades.
1970
FCD International School and the International Department of Beijing No. 55 Middle School are established to provide for the educational needs of a few foreign children in Beijing.
1980
The embassies of the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and other countries establish International School of Beijing (ISB) to accommodate the increasing numbers of expat children in China.
1990s-2000s
Private bilingual international schools including Beijing Huijia Private School (1993), AIDI School (1999), Beijing Royal School (2003), and Beijing New Talent Academy (2008) begin to spring up and fuse the gap between local and international curricula.
2010
The Beijing government allows 75 local public and private schools to teach foreign students. The Beijing Education Commission accredited these schools as such in 2003.
2012
In 2012, we at Trun Run Media brings together our knowledge and insight to create opportunities for schools of all levels to present their curricula and meet local and international parents at the Beijing International School Expo (BISE).
2013
The Ministry of Education of China initiates a new law called “The Administration of International Projects in High Schools,” which aims to tighten regulations for setting up international departments in public high schools.
2019
After six years of hosting the Beijing International School Expo (BISE), beijingkids and our Chinese sister brand Jingkids, go “Beyond School Choice” and hold the Jingkids International School Expo (JISE) at Kerry Hotel.
