We’ve written before about Beijing’s “Wild Women” – the fearless ladies who will run a 70km stretch of the Great Wall on April 13-15. And as their major endeavor nears, these ladies show no sign of stopping in their quest to raise at least RMB 75,000 for their beneficiaries: Five Loaves and Two Fishes House, and Agape Family Life House.
With barely a month left before the big run, the Wild Women have been preparing in various ways. Just recently, the ladies organized a bake sale at the successful Riviera Chic Women’s Day edition, and now they’re calling on everyone to join them to take a walk – and run – on the wild side before they conquer the Wall!
Come March 23 (Saturday), the Wild Women invite everyone to a charity fun run and walk at Beijing Riviera. Spend the morning burning calories while having fun together with other members of the Beijing community.
You can either run wild or walk on the wild side between these two distance options:
– 2km, starts 9am (RMB 50 registration fee)
– 5km, starts 9.30am (RMB 80 registration fee)
Participants will receive a registration gift too! Coffee and snacks will be served.
This year is the first edition of the Wild Women initiative in China, brought to Beijing by Lucille van der Merwe of South Africa. She told us when we spoke to her in January that the Wild Women team capped the number of participants to just 22 women for logistical reasons.
Several of them are co-organizing smaller yet equally important activities, such as this fun run and the St. Patrick’s Day quiz at Fella’s in Laiguangying, for ladies who weren’t able to join or for other expats who wish to support the Wild Women initiative.
Van der Merwe told us that the participants are also training hard aside from co-organizing these activities. “We did two-hour runs last March 9 to March 11 in preparation. Some of those climbs are hectic! I’ve been learning the routes.”
