What better way to kick off the new school year than to watch a film… about schools and education in general? Sounds boring? Nah, don’t get us wrong – Most Likely to Succeed is a popular and acclaimed documentary, which examines the state of education in the 21st century.
The film has been specially screened in theaters, public forums, and educational institutions across the globe since its premiere in 2015. There have also been limited screenings in many Chinese cities, including Beijing.
On Thursday (August 31) at 9am, our sister publication JingKids will bring the film closer to students and parents at a screening at Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing). Following the screening is a question and answer forum at noon hosted by Dr. Philip Bossert, senior consultant with OrienTech LLC, an education consulting and training company focused on 21st-century teaching and learning environments. YCIS Co-Principal Noel Thomas opens the screening and joins the Q&A too. (See their profiles below)
Dr. Philip Bossert is a senior consultant with OrienTech LLC, an education consulting and training company focused on 21st Century teaching and learning environments. For the past ten years, Dr. Bossert has served as director of the multimillion dollar Hawaii Schools of the Future Initiative and the annual Schools of the Future Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii. Prior to that he was CEO of the Hawaii High Technology Development Corporation, Vice President for Business Development at Ohana Learning, Project Director for the Hawaii Education & Research Network at the University of Hawaii, Assistant Superintendent for Information & Telecommunication Services for the Hawaii State Department of Education, and President of Hawaii Loa College.
Noel Thomas has been the Western Co-Principal of YCIS Beijing since 2014, having previously held the position of Academic Director of the Cambridge International Curriculum Centre at Beijing Normal University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Jurisprudence and a Diploma of Education from Monash University, and has also obtained a master’s degree in Educational Administration at the University of New England.
He has taught Politics, Legal Studies, History, Economics, Accounting and Information Technology in a number of Australian schools and has vast leadership experience across his 30 years of working in education including Director of Studies, Head of Planning and Development, Principal/CEO and Executive Director.
“The screening of Most Likely to Succeed also complements our theme for September, which is Innovative Education,” says Christina Cao, executive managing editor of JingKids. This event is part of JingKids Education Talks, a series of activities in which JingKids gathers professional speakers to talk about parenting and education in discussions with parents and readers in the international community.
