Albert Chua, operations manager at XIU, Park Hyatt, recently moved to Beijing from Singapore with his wife Maggie and their son Joe (4). After living in the capital for less than a year, the Chuas already know all the family-friendly hot spots in Beijing from the best eats to the best playgrounds.

Favorite Treat
Maggie is a former pastry chef, so she usually whips up dessert at home. Joe’s favorite is cheesecake.
Best Playground
Joe loves any playground. Shin Kong Plaza has a great indoor playground on the 5th floor.
Favorite Date Spot
Yi Pin Xiaolong for Shanghai dumplings. Maggie loves the soy milk there.
A Bit of Luxury
On Monday, Joe is at school and Albert has the day off, so we get to spend time together as a couple. We usually go to C. de France in Sanlitun. They have tanning, hair styling, manicures and pedicures.
Lazy Sunday
The three of us spend time together as a family. We go out for lunch, take an afternoon nap and then we play Wii.
Favorite Restaurant
The Hyatt’s International Food Warehouse. We spend a lot of time there and the food is great. Joe loves the fish and chips there.
Favorite Place to Shop
For Joe, we go to Silk Street Market and Yashow. We also shop around Sanlitun.
Favorite Japanese
We love Japanese food, so we go to Hatsune once a month. We also go to Fukunoya, which is good value for money and their small private rooms are perfect for families. Best Day Trip
Blue Zoo because Joe likes the toys in their shop.
