Throughout their lifetime, women encounter many mixed messages about getting older: from the coming of age journeys of young women to the pressures of having children and getting married, to the feeling of needing to redefine yourself after your children grow up.
In the midst of marriage and motherhood duties, there is social value that attaches the role of a woman as a wife and as a mother, while their prior role as a human being is usually neglected. Women encounter pressure from their family and community to maintain this role, and the alternating joys and burdens that go along with motherhood. This event will be analyzing these themes and more.
Emerging from the creative minds of the Transmigrant Flow art collective, a synthesis of media, ideas, and experiences is coming together under a showcase called Meridian, a mixed media art exhibition of photography, live sculpture, storytelling, and dance, built upon stories and opinions of real women exploring what it’s like to create meaningful relationships, get older, and be pressured to start a family.
This event will feature the stories and portraits of diverse women and make you rethink your own ideas about women and the passing of time.
This event will be going on from 2-5pm at 27 Yard, and costs RMB 80 (advance) or RMB 100 (door). Scan the QR code in poster for advance ticket details.
