Two recent days of snow shows us that winter isn’t finished with us yet! However, this is a busy, active community with many things going on for people of all ages and interests. Check out some of the opportunities below:
- The International Newcomer’s Network (INN) will host its Shunyi Neighborhood Coffee Morning at Mrs. Shanen’s Bagels & Café this Thursday, Feb 17 from 10am-12pm. Come meet new people and find out what’s going on in our area!
- The Place Restaurant at the Langham Hotel (by Terminal 3, Capital Airport) continues its “Feast & Fly” promotion through to the end of February. Diners enjoy an extravagant seasonal buffet to enter the draw, with a grand prize of a trip for two to Shanghai staying for three nights at the magnificent new Langham Xintiandi. Other prizes are dining vouchers and discount cards. Buffet prices are RMB 150 for lunch; RMB 180 for dinner; and children under 12 dine free with a paying adult!
- I read about a cashmere showroom in Sanlitun (The City Hotel) that sounded intriguing. But being in Shunyi, I was more interested to learn that their products (including leggings for girls!) will be at a “Bling It On” sale at Pinotage on Feb 24. I haven’t heard any other details about it, so if anyone knows about the event, please share with the rest of us!
- Don’t forget that Dulwich College has MANY events open to parents, children and ayis, free of charge. Some coming up are:
-Saturday, Feb 19, 9:30-11:30am: Ayi Workshops: How to manage children’s behavior in a positive way! This is a great opportunity for your ayis to develop their skills in working with your children. You need to sign up in advance.
-Every Wednesday, 9-10:30am: Come and Play Session for moms and children, complete with story and song times, movement activities, indoor and outdoor play. Contact Vicki Offin at vicki.offin@gmail.com. I went there today to see at least a dozen little ones and their moms/caregivers having a LOT of fun together with music and play!
-Friday, March 4, 9-9:30am: Story Time for Young Children, “How Do I Put It On?” – great for children not yet in school, with their parents. - ISB has several “Simply Music” concerts throughout the year, and on Feb 24 will feature a “Simply Piano” recital from 6:30-9pm. Usually open only to the ISB community, this specific free concert will be open to the public. Enjoy some great piano music performed by students in the ISB Theater.
- Euro Plaza is ever changing. Michael’s Italian Restaurant has moved up to the 2nd floor, in a smaller space next to Taj Pavilion. Rainbow Home, the 3rd floor housewares and décor store that hasn’t been there for much longer than six monthsis GONE. And my heart skipped a beat when I saw a “for lease” sign outside of the Coldstone Creamery location. Turns out they’ve just decided to close down the tables/chairs section of their eatery. I was able to breathe again when I saw that they didn’t leave Euro altogether, they just have a smaller space and have fewer sit-down options. I’m still hopeful that some Euro Plaza decision makers will see my “wish list” blog from awhile back and bring in some tenants that residents around here would love to see move in.
