Christmas is almost here and you can feel the festivities in the air. Right before the holiday break, Yew Chung International School of Beijing’s (YCIS Beijing’s) hard-working Parent Organization (PO) and Secondary School students organized their annual Christmas Bazaar on December 19, where local businesses, artisans, and students all came together to share in their joy of the holiday season.
The Parent Organization moms served up their homemade dishes with tender love and care, while Mad Science Camp entertained with their experiments and the beijingkids team made balloon animals.
With live performances from YCIS Beijing students and carols sung by the Early Childhood Education and Primary School students, it didn’t take long for the entire gymnasium to be filled with the Christmas spirit and rock’n’roll.
Christmas Bazaar regular Liuba Draws was a hit as always. Kids and parents alike grabbed last-minute Christmas gifts that capture the essence of Beijing life with the most absolutely adorable watercolor cards, calendars, and key chains. Meanwhile, across the gym, the YCIS Beijing knitting club gave local artisans a run for their money with their highly popular plushy hand-knit scarves that make great winter presents. A few tables down, the scent of Ganges Indian Restaurant’s irresistible butter chicken and samosas filled the air. Good luck saying no to comfort food…
The annual YCIS Beijing Christmas Bazaar was the perfect last day of school activity for the kids to relax and enjoy the holiday season to come. YCIS Beijing uses the holiday season not only to celebrate but also as a teaching moment for the students. Inspired by the PO, the Christmas Wish Tree Project brought the holiday spirit to those less fortunate through Migrant Children Foundation by encouraging students to donate and give back to the community at a young age. ’Tis the season to be jolly, but for the big-hearted YCIS Beijing students, it’s a season to show their love and kindness to the community.
