I will admit that before coming to Beijing, I’d expected to have many white winters. I had resolved to finally do what I grew up watching in all those cheesy Christmas films as a child in tropical Kenya; kids bobsledding down hills of snow, families out skiing and ice skating – I would finally join in the fun and learn to ice skate! Come to find out just how windy and dry Beijing winter is, I was quite disappointed. My childhood dream of becoming Beijing’s own Suria Bonaly was going down the tubes. But not all was lost. Turns out Beijing’s freezing temperatures are ideal for its numerous waterways and lakes to freeze solid for most of the winter! On top of that, some malls across the city create indoor skating rinks, complete with learning areas and tons of space for the pros to glide effortlessly.
It can however be a pain trying to figure out where any of these places are. Much less how to go about paying for a session. So beijingkids has scoured Dianping and found the top-rated indoor and outdoor ice skating spaces so that you don’t have to go through the hassle yourself! And if you see me out there, I will most probably have fallen flat on my back, so please help!
