Easter is this weekend and it seems like every restaurant in town has planned some sort of kid-friendly brunch with play areas and entertainment for the littles. And while happy kids running around and photos with the Easter bunny is great and all, not all of us are ready for that yet. And by us, I mean those of us with tiny babies who get overwhelmed by crowds and loud noises. Sometimes kid-friendly isn’t the same thing as baby-friendly.
We’re in a bit of a predicament. We can’t (or shouldn’t) take our babies to the restaurants designed with only grown-up guests in mind and the most popular kid-friendly restaurants in town like Kimo Kid’s Cafe are still a bit too advanced for our little one. So where can families like ours go to celebrate Easter?
Chapter’s Mezzo Brunch is every Sunday from 12-3pm. The restaurant looks like you’ve walked into the library from Beauty and The Beast and you can’t help but feel zen while you dine. The menu is delicious and there’s something for everyone. You’re greeted with a strong welcome drink and all the appetizers are designed for the whole table to share while you choose your own main course. My personal favorite is their Angus beef skirt with chimichurri, avocado, and quinoa salad. Oh, and their bread! That warm freshly baked olive bread crackles in your hand and is worth a trip all on its own. While Chapter doesn’t promote itself as a family-friendly restaurant, we saw both parents with babies and families with pre-teens enjoying a peaceful Sunday brunch together when we were there.
How much: RMB 328 net including coffee, tea, and one cocktail.

Hulu’s not just one of my favorite places to go to for Easter, it’s great any time of the day. There are three locations in Beijing – Sanlitun, Indigo, and Shunyi. All the locations have similar menus filled with great food and strong cocktails. Reservations for popular mealtimes highly recommended.

Parkview Green isn’t the first place to come to mind when you think of kid-friendly malls in Beijing, but surprisingly enough, it is – especially when your child is still a baby. The mall is never overly packed which makes it a great place for some peace and quiet. There are plenty of restaurants with open spaces where you kind of feel like you’re outside, but in reality, you’re still inside the air purified shopping center.
Casa Talia is one of the more uppity scale restaurants in the Tiago group. The restaurant is beautiful with its futuristic interior and a lovely balcony that overlooks the shopping mall. The menu is a la carte and their dessert selection is both tasty and Instaworthy. For the new moms like me who love taking photos with their babies, the minimalistic designs, white marble tables, and lighting at Casa Talia make the perfect backdrop for some gorgeous Instagram photos.

Tomacado at WF Central
Tomacado is an Instagrammer’s dream restaurant. Aside from the mediocre lighting that gives your table a yellow-ish glow, the food (and drinks) are beautiful. They take the idea of dining in a garden to a whole other level by incorporating flowers in their food as well as everywhere in the restaurant.
While Tomacado isn’t doing anything specifically Easter-y this weekend, their interior design looks like an enchanted forest and already has that beginning of spring vibe. And for us new parents with babies, the bathrooms at WF Central are a blessing! They’re clean, huge, and all have baby changing stations built-in – not an easy find for Beijing.
Tomacado is almost always packed. Reservations are highly recommended.

Frasca is great for people with babies at any time of the day. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of The Opposite House in the heart of Sanlitun. The iconic hotel filled with modern art and stunning interior design is already worth a visit on its own and a quiet and relaxing ambiance is something that my five months old baby appreciates, while I appreciate the very baby-friendly bathroom on the B1 level. This weekend Frasca has created a five-course Easter brunch that’ll only be available on Apr 4 and 5 and is filled with Italian classics. If the weather is nice this weekend, snag yourself a table on their terrace and enjoy the beginning of the best season in Beijing.
How much: RMB 328/person.
