There were just too many worthy causes to be contained in a single post, so here are a few more opportunities to give back to our community this summer!
Lost Puppies of Beijing: Calling all animal lovers! If another summer away from your family is starting to feel like too much, consider fostering a dog who needs affection as much as you do! Lost Puppies of Beijing was started in 2018, and has already rescued over 240 dogs! If you’re not able to commit the time and energy needed to foster a pup, consider donating food or toys, or offer to cover vet expenses. The organization’s website is well laid out, and has tabs for adoption, fostering, donation, and resources for pet owners in general.
Rainbow Angel Coffee (RAC): Located in Haidian District, this coffee house was started in 2017 by Felicia Li. RAC’s objective is to train mute and deaf adults in a skill so that they will be able to acquire jobs and support themselves, rather than relying on donations and the goodwill of others. RAC trains and employs young people as bakers. You can help by patronizing their business and taking cooking classes. RAC hosts events every week. So grab some friends, head on over, and fill up your belly and your heart!

Clothing Auction Network: Started in 2013 by New Zealand expat and mom Rebecca Archer, Clothing Auction Network is a simple grassroots idea that has taken off in Beijing. A few times a month, a local host opens their home or a venue of their choosing to a group of friends and neighbors who all bring their old, gently used clothes, shoes, jewelry, and even make-up. Everyone eats, drinks, and tries on clothes. Then the bidding begins! All items start at RMB 10, and at the end of the night, all the proceeds from the event go to a charity picked by the host. All unsold items are donated. This is a great opportunity to clean out your closet, meet new friends, and really make a difference, all while reducing fast fashion’s carbon footprint.
