Remember Paws For Laughs? It was a first-of-its-kind comedy charity fundraiser event that was quite the hit with parents and kids alike, not to forget that it raised over RMB10,000 for its target charity, Furry Tales. It was the culmination of a discovery of live comedy in Beijing that led to a group of kids spending a week at Comedy Camp learning all sorts of comedy techniques, references, and contexts, and finally performing live in front of an audience at Shunyi Tongli Market on Sep 3.
After that event’s “roasting” success, the kids wondered how they can continue to bring their funny twists to people. Thus, coming up on Oct 2, the self-styled BSB Comedy Kids have invited a bigger group of kids to participate in a comedy improv workshop themed “Sky’s Not The Limit” at Malacca Restaurant by Roma Lake.
Together with Improv Tree and ComedyClubChina, the kids are targeting to raise over RMB 5,000 for TianYun School, a special school for children who are hearing impaired, autistic, or have other learning disabilities.
In total, there are over 20 kids ranging from 6 to18 years of age who have signed up for the comedy improvisation workshop and show. The improv workshop will be conducted by an international team of drama instructors who have over 10 years of improv experience and who work under Inner Tree. The company considers itself a pioneer in Chinese and English youth improvisation drama and has worked with international schools and corporations to provide training workshops.
While tickets to the kids’ segment of the show are sold out at this point, there are still tickets to the after-kids show which features more M18-and-up comedy performances by professionals such as Daniel Mulroy, Louis Dowling, Kei Gambit, and Donnie Fan. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the TianYun School, so spread the word and help the kids meet their goal!
