Earlier this month, we started the Read-A-Story Video campaign showcasing young readers reading aloud a book of their choice. This was partly to encourage reading out loud – an essential skill to have in life – and also in support of our efforts to begin an English Storytelling program with Angels Baseball Academy. If the name is unfamiliar, it is a non-profit school for underprivileged local youth that seeks to train its students to win athletic scholarships for overseas education.
While we had earlier reported that we were looking forward to visiting the Academy to begin English reading sessions, shifting covid restrictions among other issues have made it impossible to organize regular visits to their campus. As such, these videos are more important than ever in helping the Angels gain more exposure to the English language.
We are grateful to have received videos of readers as young as five years old, proudly reading their favorite bedtime stories, from supportive parents. Thank you! We are happy to receive more, so please send us videos of your kids reading a short story, or even reciting their favorite limericks and rhymes! Aside from capturing a precious moment of their fleeting childhood, these videos are helping non-Native English speakers to better understand the language.
You may add Vivienne Tseng-Rush on WeChat to send your videos, or email them to viviennerush@beijing-kids.com
In the spirit of this spooky season, we are proud to present to you 5-year-old Valiant Wang reading a Halloween special – Spooky Pookie by Sarah Boynton.
Thank you for your continued support!
