When Warrior One shut its doors earlier this year, a community was scattered and almost lost. Thankfully for those devoted to the Israeli martial arts practice, four instructors remain in Beijing and continue to provide Krav Maga classes to both adults and kids alike, at a brand spanking new location.
Once known for its night scene, Destination in Sanlitun is now MixMeet, and much more than just a club. The building offers multiple function rooms suitable for physical activities like dancing and, well, martial arts! Aside from Krav maga classes, MixMeet also sees Jindafit, PartyFit and Sunshine Studio’s dance classes within its walls.
Currently, there are four Krav Maga-certified instructors conducting the classes at MixMeet – Du Peng, Flo, Amy, and Jimmy. While Du Peng is the main instructor at KMG Beijing, Flo and Amy are the instructors you will find at the Krav Junior kids’ classes, which they summed up in the following:
With classes suitable for all children from the ages of 5 to 14 (separated based on appropriate age groups), the KMG Krav Junior program is considered the most comprehensive self-defense and anti-bullying program available in the world today.
The program covers all aspects of self-defense training for kids and teens, from the physical and technical aspects, to the educational aspect (self-control, violence prevention, stranger danger, functioning under stress, etc.), to simulation training.
Our goal is to promote awareness, confidence and discipline in kids through a structured syllabus in a fun environment to offer children the opportunity to learn valuable life skills.
Speaking from personal experience, my kid is always run ragged after the hour-long class and eager to show me the self-defense techniques he picked up in class. From a physical education standpoint, he’s also learned how to break his fall should he be pushed, how to tuck and roll and bear crawl, among other motor skills.
The current class schedule is as follows:
Krav Maga Adult Classes: Tuesday 7-9pm, Saturday 11am-1pm
Krav Maga Kids’ Classes: Sunday, 9.30-11am (Junior 11-14 years), 11.10am-12.30pm (Young 8-10 years) and 1-2pm (Kids 5-7 years)
Instructor Bios:
A lifelong martial arts enthusiast, Amy has trained various combat sports, ranging from karate and wushu, to jiu-jitsu and Filipino martial arts. She started her Krav Maga journey in 2019 and has been teaching adults and children since 2021. Amy is in charge of the Y-class (8 to 10 years old). In her class, she aims to help the children further build their Krav Maga and motor skills, to develop their awareness and attention skills, and to learn about values such as discipline, respect, helping/protecting others, and persistence.
Flo has trained in Krav Maga since 2017, and after grading up, started teaching classes to both adults and children in 2021. A French national, he also pursued his training in Filipino martial arts and kickboxing.
He is in charge of the youngest group of children, the K-class (5 to 7 years old), and seeks to help them develop motor skills, understand options for conflict resolution, build good habits, learn to help others, and develop attention and listening skills.
