As summer break comes to a close, the Shunyi area is starting to get busy again with returning families and newcomers alike. While there are sure to be many changes in our neighborhood to note from the past couple of months, here are some that stand out.
*Mrs. Fields is coming to Pinnacle! I’m always interested in seeing what western franchises might make it to China – some are a bit more surprising than others. For those unfamiliar, Mrs. Fields is a cookie haven, with scrumptious treats that make my mouth water as I write this. The new storefront is being built at the end of a Pinnacle strip, right next to the English language bookstore. I cannot read the sign about tentative opening date, but it looks like the time might be soon.
*Speaking of anticipated openings, I did touch base with the assistant GM of Blue Frog, Gregory Dover. Last spring, he indicated that they will open a new restaurant in the Shunyi area, hinting at a possibility this fall in the Pinnacle area. However, right now they are focusing on two other locations (You Town in Chaoyangmen opening in October; Indigo Place in Lido shortly thereafter). He says there are still plans to get something back here when details with the developer work out.

*A quick spin through Euro Plaza shows that…well, not much has changed. The mall has such potential, but mostly falls short of expectation. However, there are a few new places that might be of interest. For golf enthusiasts, you can visit Family Golf – Screen Golf (5th floor), a 3-D virtual golf course helping you improve your swing. Dragonstar, an authorized Apple reseller, is now on the 1st floor. And for a new frozen treat place also on the 1st floor is Yobbio frozen yogurt. This self-serve station allows you to pick your flavor (choice of six), size, and add-ins ranging from fruit to nuts to candies. You pay RMB 18 per 100 grams and your creation is weighed at check out.
*Anybody know what’s going in behind the Jenny Wang building? Hair Show has moved to an upstairs location in a nearby building, and now it appears there is a two story building behind that getting ready for some kind of business. I haven’t seen any signs or other indication letting us know what’s coming, though. Have you?
