I don’t know about you, but I’m watching my belongings more carefully these days. Too many friends in the past month have been victims (or almost victims) to petty theft. Just this past month, there have been two incidents.
The first involved a friend crossing an overpass near Guomao. As she was walking across, she felt movement in her bag. Sure enough, when she turned around, a guy had his hand in her purse. Nothing was stolen, as the culprit was caught before he could steal anything.
The second incident was just this morning at 8am. My friend was on her morning commute to work on the subway, listening to some good tunes on her iPod. All of a sudden the music stopped. The iPod was stolen right out of her back pocket, WHILE she was listening to it.
So be careful out there Beijingers. There are pickpockets among us and they’re either growing in numbers or confidence (or both!
