Green Peace doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty, and their latest move, a set of lawsuits against some of China’s major grocery chains, is leading the way to cleaner produce for all of us. The lawsuit was prompted by the discovery of methamidophos and monocrotophos turning up on Tesco’s green veggies. Both of these chemical substances have been banned in China for nearly five years. A Lianhua Chinese leek sample was also found to contain pesticide residue procymidone levels of 1.05 mg/kg (far exceeding the Chinese MRL standard of 0.02 mg/kg). And yes, all of these are toxic. Green Peace also provided a list of other pesticide-laden items found in stores.
