The Chinese Ministry of Education has banned kindergarten schools from giving homework and from “carrying out any activities related to primary school learning”. The Ministry of Education stated that in order for the healthy development of kindergarten children, they should not be burdened with activities such as homework at such a young age. Kindergarten schools often delegate homework out in order to “better prepare them for primary school”, however the set tasks are often of a level too high for children of this age group and simply provide the children with unwanted stress. The Beijing Municipal Commission of Education passed a notice from the Ministry of Education which aims to prevent “kindergarten education from becoming primary school education” by standardizing kindergartens. The Ministry is now asking local education authorities to supervise local kindergartens and submit feedback within the near future.
