It was recently announced by Beijing News that Beijing would be getting 3 more children’s hospitals in the near future. It is thought that these new hospitals are attempts to tackle the problems caused by the current shortage of pediatric medical services in Beijing, as in 2012, it is estimated that around 200,000 babies will be born. Fang Laiying, director of Beijing Municipal Health Bureau commented that the Peking University First Hospital would be opening another unit to be located in southern Beijing. Laiying also reported that Beijing Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital (affiliated with Capital Institute of Pediatrics) will both be opening new medical units located in the eastern and western parts of the city.
