The end of Wellington College International Tianjin’s school year ended dramatically – with a production of Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Our Town. The production, with a cast of students from the Senior School, opened on June 16, 2012 in the college’s black box theater, the first of three sold-out performances.
The college’s drama teacher, Georgina Chakos, helped the students deliver polished, riveting performances despite that fact that many of the senior school students are not native English speakers or had never acted before. Our Town explores the heavy themes of life and death while using deceptively simple or non-existent props and scenery. Though many actors may be daunted without exciting theatrical devices to hide behind, the students tackled the play with enthusiasm and skill.
