The Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB) Summer Camp held the closing ceremonies for its first three-week session on Friday, July13. The closing ceremonies, held in CISB’s auditorium, showcased the musical, coordination, and language skills that the campers had learned in three short weeks.
The event, emceed by Admissions Director and Director of Public Relations Laurianne Gidrol, began with the Canadian and Chinese national anthems and quickly segued into the afternoon’s first camper performance, the Chinese drums. In only twelve classes over the course of the three-week session, the campers mastered the Chinese drums, guzheng (Chinese harp), ruan (a banjo-like instrument), hulusi (a flute), kung fu, and some Chinese songs.
For the singing performances, students made accompanying costumes. The most outstanding accessories were red or black ant cut-outs and ant headpieces for the English song “We Are Ants.” The ceremony ended with Peking opera and four of the older campers skillfully performing traditional dance steps with fringed staffs.
Though the first session ended, the popular CISB summer camp will continue throughout the summer with two more two-week sessions.
