On Friday, August 10, the Canadian International School of Beijing Summer Camp marked the end of summer with a fantastic closing ceremony. Performances by campers included Kung Fu, musical instrument recitals, and even Peking Opera, and demonstrated how well campers had learned new talents within the time span of just a few weeks.
Matthew Liang, a young camp volunteer, emceed the afternoon’s event. Musical instrument performances began the program, with Chinese drums, guzheng (a table harp), and the ruan (a banjo-like instrument). Following that the campers demonstrated their kung fu prowess as their instructor led them through a series of poses and moves.
The program then moved into singing performances featuring the entire classes. The first piece was Class A singing We Never Cut Our Hair. Class A members made their own costumes, which were wigs fashioned from streamers and construction paper. Class B then led with a rousing performance of Rock ‘n Roll History, which featured students in smashing rock and caveman costumes.
The CISB auditorium was packed with parents, who were an enthusiastic audience. The CISB Summer Camp ran for seven weeks this summer, with two previous performances prior to the final closing ceremony.
