At the International Montessori School of Beijing (MSB), kindergarteners learn not only the basics of reading and math, but they also learn about virtues they’ll need in life. Most recently, MSB’s kindergarteners studied the virtue of friendship and showcased what they learned for their parents on Friday, October 12, in a colorful, song-filled assembly.
Academic Head Marie Hoffman kicked off the assembly with a reading of Do You Want to Be My Friend?by revered children’s author and illustrator Eric Carle. Do You Want to Be My Friend is a story of few words but many pictures, so the children filled in the story with their own ideas. The students sang a friendship song for their parents, then completed the assembly with the friendship rainbow. For the friendship rainbow, every child selected a hand cutout with a friend’s name on it and placed it on the rainbow as a sign of friendship.
