It’s that time of year when the high school students in our many international schools start seriously thinking, “What’s next?” For many, those plans include attending a college or university, and now is the time to explore the multitude of options available.
On October 18, The British School of Beijing’s Shunyi campus hosted its first-ever University and College Fair, with representatives from approximately 15 institutions on site. Students were able to learn about the admissions process, academic programs, campus facilities and more. BSB not only opened this fantastic opportunity up for their own students, but invited those from other schools to attend as well.
BSB’s University Counselor Andy Rigione coordinated the event and was pleased with the interest, hoping to host similar events in the future. Anna Colquhoun-Alberts represented the University of Reading at the event, and she was quite impressed with the diversity of the students as well as the wide range of subjects that they were interested in pursuing, from environmental science to the classics. “It’s been a great event to introduce what our university has to offer,” she says.
Other international schools in the area also had university representatives at their schools, some for evening meet-and-greets with parents and students, others at daytime seminars for interested students. The week was busy with such activities, leading up to the 2012 China Education Expo held at the World Trade Exhibition Center in Guomao this past weekend (the expo begins in Beijing and through November 3 will visit seven cities in China). More than 500 schools from 39 countries will be in one place, “Sharing the Diversity of Global Education” during this 13th annual expo.
