Russian Children’s Education Center Currently Enrolling First Grade Students
Russian Children’s Education Center opened its doors for the first time to students entering first grade. Smeshariki Beijing Children’s Center launched in 2011 as a kindergarten and has grown into the Russian Children’s Education Center. The center familiarizes children with Russian culture and instills traditional values through Russian language immersion. Classrooms are furnished with state-of-the-art equipment and countless learning materials. Lessons are conducted in accordance with the Russian Federal State Education Standard for primary school.
On Pointe Dance Studio Opens at BSB
Founded by Chloe Brydges in August, this dance studio is located at the British School of Beijing’s Shunyi Campus. Classes take place at BSB from Monday to Saturday and at the East Lake Villas clubhouse on Sundays. The school accepts ages 3 and up, focusing

Harrow Student Earns Top Score In China
David Zhang, a Year 13 student at Harrow International School Beijing, achieved the highest mark in China in the University of Cambridge Thinking Skills AS-Level examination. Dr. John Moore, Head of the Harrow Upper School, says: “This is a great achievement and it is no mean feat. Thinking Skills is an extra AS-Level which students studied alongside all their other commitments. It is designed to stretch more able students. It requires high-level logical-mathematical thinking and an ability to analyze and critique written arguments. Seventy percent of the class gained A grades on this difficult AS-Level, so well done to the whole class. Especially well done to David though, who should be very proud of this achievement.”
Young Starters Academy Opens Its Doors
Opened on November 1, Young Startes Academy is a bilingual kindergarten that is part of Beijing2Fun Academy. The campus is located on Nvren Jie (Ladies Street) and accepts kids aged 2 to 4, and up to 6 for continuing students. The individualized program includes piano and reading. BSB Pirate Ship Sets Sail
On Wednesday, October 10, Year 3 students at the British School of Beijing (BSB) transformed into a crew of pirates. The students, who dressed and talked like pirates, were charged with launching “The British Buccaneer.” The students were the first to play on the new pirate ship, one of the new pieces of brand-new play equipment at BSB’s primary school. All the new playgrounds age-appropriate for specific year groups have been carefully designed and planned out by experienced educationalists. The playground boasts six pieces of new equipmen: two artificial turf football pitches, painting easels, and Wendy houses for imaginative role play. All the equipment is made by Lappset and imported from Scandinavia.
Registration Kicks Off at ClubFootball

WAB Welcomes Assistant Principal
The Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) is pleased to introduce one of its new assistant principals to the Beijing community. Originally from Australia, Murray Polglase has been teaching at WAB for the past four years. He brings over 20 years of teaching experience to his new role as high school assistant principal, including time as a head of department and grade level leader. Polglase is convinced that WAB is truly a unique school that has the best interests of its students at heart. He looks forward to the challenges successes in the years to come. Murray has a son who is a teacher in Tianjin, and a daughter who studies at WAB.
Five Dulwich Students Receive Top Marks in the World Awards
Dulwich College Beijing is delighted to announce that five students have received an Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award. These awards celebrate the academic achievements of Secondary School learners in the November 2011 and June 2012 Cambridge examination series. For the first time, Dulwich College Beijing students have received four Top in the World awards for achieving the highest marks in (I)GCSE Foreign Language Mandarin Chinese. Rebecca Zhu, Samuel Tang (pictured, left and center), as well as Matilde Xiao and Kevin Li are all to be congratulated for this achievement. Congratulations also to Livia Boer (pictured, right) who has received an Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award for gaining the highest mark in China in (I)GCSE First Language German.
