Several sources forecast a high likelihood of rain today in Beijing. For those who don’t feel like bundling up the whole family and braving the torrents (and who can blame them?), here are five rainy day, seasonal crafts from our archives that you can do right in the comfort of your own home.
1. Pressed Paper
Who doesn’t love the feel of artisan paper? Replicate that feeling at home by pressing your own paper using a mix of tissue paper, crepe paper, and newspaper. This one requires supervision with a blender.
2. Clucking Craft
Just in time for Thanksgiving, this cute and easy-to-make paper craft requires takes just 10 minutes to make and requires only common materials. It can be adapted to become any kind of fowl, including a turkey, chicken, or duck. Plus, it actually “clucks”!
This craft takes a bit longer (1-2 hours) and is suitable for older kids. Using play-doh and a yogurt container, make a clear snow globe to decorate the house for winter or hang on the Christmas tree.
4. Gingerbread Men Garland
Another easy-peasy craft, this gingerbread garland takes just 15 minutes to make. Using craft or construction paper, fold up the paper accordion-style, trace a gingerbread man shape, and cut along the lines. Voila! Instant festive feeling.
5. “Sew Pretty” Decorations
This one requires parental assistance with sewing, but the results are worth it. Cut out felt shapes like stars and birds, stuff them with cotton balls, sew around the edges, and hang your creations all over the apartment.
