Even though the official season of giving has passed, there are still people who need, and one of the most valuable things you can donate is your blood. Beijing United Family Hospital (BJU) is having its first blood drive of 2013 next Tuesday, January 15. The drive needs donors of all blood types, but as is the case with blood donation, those who are Rh negative are especially encouraged to donate, as Rh negative is a rare blood type in the Han Chinese population.
Eligible donors must be healthy people between the ages of 18 and 60, and donors must present their photo ID before donating. Women should weigh at least 45kg and men should weigh at least 55kg, and everyone must wait 6 months between donations. The donation process takes 30 to 40 minutes; it will start with questions, a short physical examination and blood screenings.
