On Wednesday, June 19, United Family Healthcare announced the official opening of Beijing United Family Rehabilitation Hospital (BJU Rehab Hospital). The new hospital is a sprawling 172,000 sqft facility that aims to “restore function and quality of life to patients recovering from serious injuries, surgeries or debilitating illnesses.”
Key rehabilitation services will include neurological, orthopedic, postnatal, cardiopulmonary, and pediatric rehabilitation. Additionally, the hospital will provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy, prosthetics and orthotics, and traditional Chinese medical procedures like acupuncture.
BJU Rehab Hospital also features an ICU ward, a hydrotherapy pool, hyperbaric and atmospheric oxygen chambers, and a cardiopulmonary stress test system.
Gary Locke, US ambassador to China, and other distinguished representatives from governments, medical associations, insurance partners, and business associates, participated in the day’s ribbon cutting ceremony. Locke spoke at the ceremony, saying “United Family’s new rehabilitation facility is absolutely beautiful. It will attract patients from throughout Asia and is a great example of how the US and China can partner to provide high-quality healthcare and advanced medical services.”
Dr. Joel DeLisa, the hospital’s honorary president, said that, “The BJU Rehab Hospital follows and attempts to surpass the highest international quality standards recognized by the world’s most well-regarded rehabilitation accrediting agency, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and seeks to become China’s first CARF-accredited facility.”
