The first full school week might have just ended for some children while others don’t want to wait for school to open, these places to visit are a good place to distract them for a few hours. Indoors might be a good idea since Beijing temperatures just make going outside unbearable. But if you are feeling brave then the following outdoor places are fun to explore and likely most open early and close late afternoon.
This indoor ice-skating rink can be found at the World Trade Center and skate rentals are available. Opens daily from 10am-6pm. RMB 50 for 90 min. Skate rental included.
Note: This place can get a little crowded on weekend afternoons. If so try your luck at the Solana Ice rink.
Enjoy the last few weeks of watching huge cannonballs by going using the large outdoor/indoor pool, a sand volleyball court, a playground, a gym, Ping-Pong tables available at the Sino-swiss hotel in Shunyi. Weekend admission is RMB 140, RMB 70 (children). Free for children under 1m.
Beijing’s largest amusement park with rides and faux Disney characters. The park’s slogan is "Disneyland is too far." To see the real Disney characters Beijing residents have to go to Hong Kong. The park is basically a Disney rip-off featuring Minnie Mouse ("a cat with big ears"), Cinderella’s castle and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This sounds like a place just have a fun fake Disney. Opens daily 9am-5pm. Admission is RMB 10. Use subway line 1’s Bajiao Station to get there.
"Gudai Qianbi Zhanlanguan" in Chinese, a museum housing ancient coins. Hundreds of different types of currencies used throughout China’s history on display. The building, an old military tower, is fun to explore itself. Opensdaily 9am-3:30pm. Admission is RMB 5. Using the subway is the best way to get there, Line 2’s Jishui Tan Station(exit A).
