For the second time this month, we bring you an extra edition of Shunyi Happenings. Here is an extra round-up of news and tidbits from around our neighborhood.
BJU Shunyi Clinic Closed this Sunday
On Sunday, October 27, Beijing United Shunyi clinic will be closed. The clinic is undergoing a inspection by an external agency as part of BJU’s expansion program. Following the renovations and on-site developments, Shunyi residents can expect a larger clinic with more services, such as ultrasounds. Regular hours will resume on Monday, October 28 from 9.30am.
More Halloween Fun
Hilton Beijing Capital Airport Halloween Brunch
Bring your kids to the Hilton Beijing Capital Airport on Sunday, October 27 from 11.30am-3pm for a scary and fun Halloween experience. They can join a specially-created haunted maze, trick-or-treating, and make traditional Jack O’Lanterns and scary masks while you sit back and enjoy the Halloween brunch buffet.
Brunch with free flow soft drinks for RMB 368, with champagne, wine, beer, and soft drinks for RMB 428. Children 6-11 years old, RMB 184. Children five and under eat for free. All prices subject to a 15 percent service charge.
Villa Trick or Treating
On All Hallows’ Eve, Thursday, October 31, three Shunyi villa compounds will be celebrating. Capital Paradise, Yosemite, and Rose and Gingko will all be offering small parties as well as trick or treating opportunities for the kids. You can usually tell which houses are willing to participate by the decor they put up outside their homes, or the family members standing by the doors ready to receive little ghouls and goblins.
Celebrations begin at 6pm. Check ahead with clubhouses for more details. Yosemite, for example, offers a full party with face painting, a buffet, a haunted house, pumpkin carving and a Halloween photo by Yin Yang Studio (adults RMB238, children RMB138), or just entrance to the haunted house for RMB80. Don’t forget to keep warm against the chilly evening.
Community Outreach
It is heartwarming to read that local businesses provide entertainment opportunities not only for the general public, but also for less fortunate children.
The Hilton Beijing Capital Airport Hotel, which is holding its Halloween Brunch, as detailed above, last month also marked a special celebration, hosting a mid-Autumn day party for the children at the Beijing Stars and Rain Autism Institution. Volunteers from the hotel staff interacted with the children and their parents, playing games, giving out moon cakes and playing guitar for the children. The highlight of the activity was a Wishing Poster created by the hotel team members, containing wishes for the children and recognition for their parents’ efforts in giving their children the best care possible.
Beijing Stars and Rain is China’s first non-governmental educational organization dedicated to serving children with autism. Founded in 1993, they have helped over 7,000 autistic children and their families through a unique parent-training course, which gives parents the skills necessary to educate their own children.
The outreach program of the Hilton Beijing Capital Airport Hotel is one of several interactions they have had with Beijing Stars and Rain, to help raise awareness for the needs of children with autism.
