IKEA furniture names could be easily confused with obscure metal bands, but that hasn’t stopped Beijing shoppers from crowding into its Siyuanqiao store (and napping on its showroom displays).
Our fair city may currently boast the third largest IKEA store in the world (ranking just behind Cologne and Stockholm), but after just seven years, Beijing has already outgrown the 42,000 sqm Siyuanqiao space.
To meet the demand, IKEA is opening a second Beijing location on November 7. Located next to the A exit of Xihongmen station of Line 4 in Daxing in south Beijing, this second branch is a relatively rare move for the Swedish furniture giant, which seldom opens more than one store in a major metropolitan area.
