Although parents can use books, e-books, and tablets to read bed-time stories to their children, Smart PJ’s inventor Juan Murdoch has just added children’s pajamas to the list of available story-telling methods, transforming bedclothes into an interactive night-time narrator.
Each pair of Smart PJ’s pajama features 47 unique dot clusters, similar to QR codes, that sync with free Android and iOS apps. When each dot pattern is scanned with a smart phone or tablet, children can enjoy a story or an animal lesson unfold on their mobile device.
Kids can have their device read their bedtime story to them, or mute the narrator and read the text themselves.
Murdoch, a realtor and father of six children, came up with the idea for Smart PJs during a briefing on QR codes. He originally tried the idea with QR codes, but they didn’t transfer well to fabric and the dot patterns provided a workable alternative.
Murdoch is working on future apps and stories featuring holiday themes, songs, and games, so children will not become bored by familiar material at bedtime.
