On Wednesday 16th April 2014, we hosted our first ever Year 1 & 2 gymnastics competition at Harrow. We were delighted to welcome a team of gymnasts from BSB to compete against us in a series of three disciplines that included a floor routine, body management and a vault.
It was so pleasing to see the spectator gallery filled with parents and teachers who came to support and they were treated to some excellent gymnastic performances. The children proudly entered the gymnasium to music and the opening parade was greeted by loud applause!
The Harrow team had been practicing the routines in their gymnastics LIA with Mr Hill and for many of them this was the first time they had experienced taking part in gymnastics. It was excellent to see the way the Harrow team encouraged each other and applauded their team mates after each performance. They demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship and togetherness as a team.
Although everyone performed to the best of their ability, there were some standout performers who won individual medals. Nia Hill won the body management routine with a score of 9.5 and achieved a gold medal and Sienna Sargent won gold in the vault with a score of 9.0. Possibly the most impressive achievement went to Aric Wong who won two medals, gold in the floor routine with a score of 8.5 and silver in the body management with a score of 9.3.
BSB won the team competition as the scores of the top eight gymnasts were added together to give an overall score. The final score was Harrow 192.3 and BSB 193.1 so it was a tightly fought contest!
We look forward to continuing our gymnastics training and competing again soon!
