Comic Book Creation & Cityscapes
On Sunday January 11, The Learning Center is running a winter weekend program, suitable for Grades 4-5. The first session from 9.30am-12.30pm looks at comic book creation. Students will look at comics from traditional sources, including Marvel, and look at excerpts from graphic novels. Students will have the chance to put together their own short stories into comic book form. During the afternoon session, which runs from 1.30-4.30pm, students will look at cityscapes and plan their own city. After School Ski Club
Imagine Snowsports has launched a five week after school ski club, starting on Tuesday January 13. The club runs on Tuesdays from 4-8pm, club participants will be picked up from any school in Shunyi, and taken to Qiaobo Ice & Snow World for lessons with international ski instructors. Dinner at the ski center is included, and participants will then be dropped back home around 8pm. RMB 2,500 for the five week program, includes lessons, transport, and dinner. Chinese Culture Art Activities
The International Montessori Teaching Institute (IMTI) is running a professional development teacher/parent workshop, about preparing for the Chinese spring festival. Participants will be introduced to a variety of New Year decorations, and learn to design and paint fans and lanterns, make paper flowers and cards, paint Peking opera masks, and paste a dragon. Participants will gain the knowledge and practical skills required to take back into the classroom. The workshop takes place on Saturday January 17 from 9.30am-3pm. beijingkids Shunyi Correspondent Sally Wilson moved to Beijing in 2010 from the UK with her husband and son. Her daughter was born here in 2011 and both her kids keep her happily busy.
