The sci-fi movie industry made people believe in robot worlds in the future. The future is here, at least in China.
Robots have become increasingly common in various restaurants around China, according to a recent Gizmodo article. It details one pale white droid, with light-emitting diode (LED) hearts for eyes, serving up a delicious plateful at a Sanmenxia restaurant. More impressive still is a Qingdao robot named Tete who can use over 200 words and is good at serving.
While droids have the potential to revolutionize food and beverage industry in China, robot facinated Chinese need not eat out to interact with such artificial intelligence (A.I). Technode recently ranked four mainland firms that are bringing droids into the home. Rokid tops the list, thanks to its white, egg shaped A.I. that serves as a home security system, in part due to its design that incorporate voice and facial recognition feature. It can also switch off lights, announce reminders and weather forecasts, and more.
The article also details the features of Pudding, which has security features like the Rokid, and the Alpha 2, which can mimic human movements and carry out simple office tasks thanks to its 20 joints. However, Chinese parents may be far more partial to the Jett Companion Robot, which can teach children language and science lessons thanks to its cloud data connection. Jett can even read children’s emotions with a camera analysis system, which prompts them to play songs or jokes whenever the youngster frowns. Indeed, if animatronic parenting is in the works, then the parents can’t deny that the future looks bright.
