When Feeling Homesick
Breakfast at Café Konstanz on Lucky Street. Their breads are just like in Germany – sometimes even better! Then dinner and dance shows at Punjabi Restaurant on Lucky Street.
Place to Bring Friends From Home
Jingshan Park on Sundays between 2 and 5 pm for amazing song-and-dance performances by ordinary folks!
Lunch Spot
Din Tai Fung. They have the best baozi.
Outdoor Play Space
Side Park near Lido, which has a skating rink, children’s playing area and space for kite flying.
Day Trip
A mountain trek to the Great Wall at Mutianyu and either fishing or sliding down the
toboggan, followed by lunch at an outdoor eatery.
Rainy Day Activity
A trip to one of Beijing’s bookstores. Chaterhouse in The Place and the Poplar Kids Republic Picture Book Store in Jianwai Soho have nice reading areas and always have something new.
Kid’s Clothing Shop
Decathlon has very good quality and prices – for kids and for parents!
Weekend Ritual
Swimming in San Quan Club, followed by sandwiches and cakes with hot chocolate
in Q’s Café.
Snack Food
We just love bingtang hulu, the sugarcoated haw on a stick.
