We’re mostly parents here at beijingkids, and so we understand it’s time to plan for your child’s summer, especially if your child is headed overseas. Starting from this frame of mind, we put together this issue just for those plans.
We started off with a list of helpful goodies for your traveling camper, sandwiched in-between Talking Shop’s feature on glacial mud masks and Katie Musser’s amazing makeover.
In Dining, we took one lucky child to QMex to sample the new kids menu. The Lyman family wiped up a recipe of Rice Krispy s’mores. We confess, we like this crazy fusion even though the sugar will send any camper shooting across the ocean, no airplane needed.
Dr. Melissa Rodriguez shared her favorite home remedies with us to equip the doctor at home and Dr. Dorothy Dexter shared ways that a couple can make best use of all the free time awaiting them with a kid-free summer.
Playing Outside covered Nurseries for Nurseries, and gave parents a resource for how to take the garden home. Maker’s Corner showcased how to make a sweet little scrapbook for all of those camping memories.
In Learning, we asked for the in’s and out’s of school-organized camps and what makes them all different. We also found out where camps will be in Schooled. Dan Sandoval wowed us with his pictures of the Antarctic wildlife in When I Grow Up. BCIS students showed us their best work in this month’s Blank Canvas. For Tough Topics, we decided to find out from a WAB school counselor if there’s a difference between homesickness, the normal period of adjustment, “trouble fitting in” and anxiety, a more serious issue. Lastly, we met the incredibly respectable Joshua Y. of Olive International School.
In Parenting, we met a parent adventurer, Stefen Chow, and talked about his parenting style. For West Meets East we compared how parents deal with travel. Ember Swift shared with us her long and lulling summers in the home of her parents (who were teachers) and how she wade the same decision for her adult life and her children. Andy Killeen pondered the benefit of travel in chase of famous, wild horses.
We featured Trey and Peyton Warner, brothers who went to the same overseas camp, and decided to take their passion for the camp to a whole new level with the coaxing of their father. Finally, we rounded up overseas camps along with some advice in consideration of when to send your children overseas.
