When I see twins in the street—I usually do a double-take, no pun intended. But how about seeing a thousand pairs of them! At the Fourth Mojiang International Twins Festival held during May 1-3, over a thousand pairs of twins from China and overseas gathered in Mojiang County, southwest China’s Yunnan Province to celebrate this special festival for twins.
Mojiang is nicknamed “the Town of Twins” because of the plenty pairs of twins that are born here every year. Legend has it that there is a “twins well” in this little town, whose water can make a pregnant woman have twins (this is so intriguing – I’d almost head down there immediately to drink the water from that well!). Since 2005, Mojiang has been hosting annual twin festivals, with numerous activities particularly designed for twins (identical and fraternal) and triplets to participate in. This year’s spotlight was on the big twins parade, the grand lunch for 2,000 people on 600 dining tables that extended over a kilometer long, and fun contests such as “the most similar twins,” “the least similar twins,” etc. Check out the fun!
