The Teleks
Though Yelda and Murat have lived in Beijing for the last six years, they say that they never get homesick for Turkey, where they both come from. Four-year-old Yasmina has lived in Beijing her whole life; her first word was in Chinese. The trilingual youngster is planning to be a doctor when she grows up. The Teleks love the safety that Beijing provides and hope to stay here for as long as possible.

Rainy Day
Distractions
We go to The Place in
Sanlitun. Murat and Yasmina sometimes go to Yu Kids Island and Yelda gets a chance to shop. We eat lunch at Meeting Point, and sometimes Yasmina indulges her sweet tooth with cheesecake
at Starbucks.
Weekend Playtime
We go to Tuanjiehu Park
as often as we can. The
atmosphere is renao but you
can take boats out on the lake and float under beautiful
Chinese bridges. Yasmina wakes up early so we pack some food and eat at the park while
watching the parks’
activities, like taijiquan
and tango dancing.
Best Date Night
When we get the
chance, we like to go to Face Bar for a drink in the evening. It is beautifully decorated with
antique Asian furniture and the atmosphere
is wonderful.
Favorite Lunch Spot
Murat and Yasmina
love the pizza at Sanlitun’s Hidden Tree. Although Yasmina is a bit fussy about food, she always finds something
yummy there.
Kids Activity
Recently we found
a children’s cooking class at
the Hilton Wangfujing, so
Yasmina takes part in that
most Saturdays. The children are well supervised and they make all sorts of tasty food – though they are happiest on the days that they get to bake. Parents can sit and have a coffee, so it is a great place to catch up with
old friends.
Lazy Sunday Fun
New Veranda in Shunyi
is a great place to spend a couple of hours. We like to go there for brunch with friends, and there is a great indoor play space with slides and tunnels and even a ball pit for kids.
Indulgence
Made in China at the Grand Hyatt is where we go to treat ourselves.
Cold Weather
Activity
We are homebodies,
so we invite friends over
and Yelda cooks Turkish
snacks. Sometimes we
have up to 14 friends over
with their children and we spend the day eating
and chatting.
