The recently (and very rapidly) completed Qing Feng Park along the banks of the Tonghui River is a very welcome and positive step in Beijing’s urban development.
Now comes news in the Global Times that even more city parks are on the way: Five new parks are slated for "areas east of the Di’anmenwai Street, north of the Guang’anmenwai Street, southwest of Jingtai Bridge, south of Fushi Road in the Shijingshan district and Changxindian in the Fengtai district."
According to the article: "Planting will begin in the coming months, and the parks are expected to open to the public next year free of charge. After completion the forest parks, covering an area of 23 hectares and with 60,000 trees and over 100,000 shrubs and flowers, will be installed with outdoor fitness equipment and walking areas for nearby residents."
The Di’anmenwai Dajie park is probably the most intriguing, if not relevant, for our readers given its central location and proximity to the bustling and vibrant Houhai area. It will be most interesting to see how it will affect the commercial geography of the Shichahai/Nanluoguxiang area.
