You’ve been warned before, and yet the temptation lingers. The embarrassment is surmounting, as the redness seems to create a bulging landmark right smack in the middle of your face. It takes all your will to resist doing the unadvisable: popping that pimple.
MyHealth Beijing blogger Dr. Richard Saint Cyr says you shouldn’t have to deal with this annoying problem that can plague both teens and adults. The first step to a healthier complexion is admitting to a problem in the first place. If left untreated, acne can leave scars, so you must think of it as an inflammatory disease infecting your skin. You need to take care of it as soon as possible.
Don’t expect acne to disappear in a matter of days or even weeks, once the right medicine is applied. Cyr says it takes constant treatment, sometimes for years, to fully eliminate the problem, and that still leaves room for the occasional breakout or two.
For the next step, discuss with your doctor a plan that will work for your skin. Cyr’s recommendation is benzoyl peroxide 5 percent cream, which can be effective if taken continuously and on a regular basis.
Cyr’s other tips include:
-
Address your diet
-
Use a topical cream like benzoyl peroxide nightly
-
Try over-the-counter medicines. Refer to this list for good products.
-
Use special acne facial soaps and not regular soap
-
Use prescription medicine for severe cases
