Fairmont Beijing chef Reto Borer is from Switzerland while his wife Ulrike hails from Germany. Together they live in Beijing with their son Christopher (15). After three years in Dubai, this international family moved to Beijing a year ago, making the most of what this city has to offer.
Best Day Trip
Fragrant Hills and the
Great Wall.
Best Shopping Spot
Best Buy for Reto, who is a gadget freak and loves electronics, especially Apple products. Christopher is also turning into quite a computer whiz.
New Discoveries in Beijing
Sanlitun and the embassy district, which are great for walking around.
Favorite Family Restaurant
Din Tai Fung in Shin Kong Plaza, but it is noisy.
Favorite Way to Relax as a Family
Long breakfasts.
Snow Days
If it snows, we go for walks. We haven’t lived with four seasons for the past ten years.
Kids Beg to Go
Christopher is a big fan of The Cut Grill (the Fairmont’s steakhouse).
Favorite Beijing Neighborhood
Beijing in general is very interesting: There is something new and exciting on every corner.
Best Date Night
Date nights are at home with a good bottle of wine and a movie.
