The sun is out and the weather is warm. That means only one thing: it’s spring fair season. While the Downtowners head to their respective spring fairs, lets see what’s on offer up here in Shunyi.
* Reminder about ISB’s annual Spring Fair, this Saturday, May 14 from 10am-4pm. It’s a huge event for children and adults alike, with games, food, vendors, book nook, entertainment, raffles and more! Local businesses will be there, as will several charity groups with opportunities to donate or volunteer. Don’t miss it! For spring fairs downtown, click here.
* Roundabout is now moving to its new location just outside of the ISB east exit gates (next to Tasty’s and Da Salvatores restaurants). Opening day is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, and promises to have many higher end items interesting to expats. They are still accepting donations, either at the old location (just until May 14) or the new store location. Store hours are Monday-Saturday, 9:30am-5:30pm. Larger item pick-ups can still be arranged during this time as well. Contact Michelle at 152 0114 8852 or Jelena at 137 1801 1124 for information during this time.
* To tie the two above notices together, Roundabout’s next Book Fair is to be held at ISB’s Spring Fair, and all books donated to the school’s annual Book Nook will be given to Roundabout for their purposes that day. HUGE selection of books, and in the midst of a fun day out, too. All proceeds go to charity.
* "Pray for Japan” is a charity group of approximately 20 women raising funds for the Red Cross of Japan. Some final efforts on their behalf include a table at ISB’s Spring Fair this Saturday, May 14 (booth will be in the school across from the PTA store). They will have baked goods, paper cranes and wrist bands for donations of any amount. There is also a quilt auction held at this time, with beautiful quilts raising money for the efforts. Contact Yumi Ayama at 135 2298 9824 for details.
* Euro Plaza has a new place for young kids to play around! Located on the 5th floor is Myoyo Education, a large open space with padded play sections for the kids to enjoy. The center is for children 130cm or below (approximately 8 years old and younger). Kids must be accompanied by an adult, and no split pants are allowed. Tickets are RMB 150 each, or you can buy multi-session cards for discounted rates. There is no time limit per visit to the play area. Check it out!
* As you may have seen from last week’s Shunyi Happenings, in the comment section there was a notification for new fencing classes by Fenxing Fencing Club held in Gahood Villas. Children from age 12 can learn the proper technique of this sport from a FIE-accredited fencing master. See the classified ad for their recent post, and contact them for further information. E-mail fenxing.fencing@gmail.com or call Song at 136 1139 9063.
* The Caledonian Society of Beijing is holding a Family Ceilidh & Barbeque (Scottish Dance) on Saturday, May 21 at 6pm at the Dulwich College Beijing – Legend Garden Campus. Children and adults are welcome (RMB 80/100/120). Please bring a bag of rice or a large bottle of cooking oil to be donated to local charities on your behalf. Buffet included and cash bar at this non-smoking event. Contact beijingcaledoniansociety@gmail.com for more information.
