Every weekend there seems to be some outdoor event going on, and the parks and fields are full of families and kids. Pools have opened and the hot weather is great! With just weeks left to go in the school year, everyone is gearing up for a fun summer. For this week:
* Pinnacle Plaza is always a busy place during the weekend with people enjoying outdoor cafes and shopping. May 20-22 from 10.30am-8pm there will be a special International Food & Beverage Festival, with free food, music performances and more, so be sure to check it out this weekend!
* River Garden will hold its annual Spring Bazaar this Saturday, May 21 from 10am-4pm just outside the clubhouse area. Filled with vendors of all kinds, it’s a great time to pick up gifts to bring back home or special treats for yourself.
* KinStar International Bilingual School celebrates its Family Fair & Talent Show this Saturday, May 21 from 10am-3pm. Everyone is welcome to come enjoy a day of fun games, good food, plenty of activities and more! Go to www.kinstarschool.org for directions and more information.
* Come have some fun at BSB’s annual Summer Splash Fayre on Sunday, May 22 at their Shunyi campus. See their website for details (www.britishschool.org.cn).
* A new restaurant is now in place at the former New Verandah location (above Century 21 and Domino’s by WAB). Try hearty American fare at The Filling Station, a completely renovated restaurant with an expanded playroom (climbing equipment for little ones, gaming stations for older kids). The non-smoking restaurant has daily set-lunch specials, a kids menu, a homemade ice cream station, and hearty foods like fajitas, ribs, burgers and more. There will be outdoor seating and a BBQ grill for summer weekends, and for groups or larger families there are dine-in or take-out meals such as rotisserie chickens and BBQ packs. Delivery is available. Open daily from 7.30am-9pm. Stay tuned for special events such as kids cookery classes and ice cream sundae parties!
* Roundabout officially opened its new location outside the east exit gates of ISB (next to Da Salvatore’s restaurant). It is definitely a more upscale look to their previous charity store, with items in display units and furniture for sale around the store. Toys and games are still available, as are some clothing and jewelry items. The store appears to target expat customers more with their selection and pricing, so it will be exciting to hear how this new direction will help Roundabout continue helping others!
* For those of you going away during summer break, maybe you’d like to consider sending your ayi to learn some English. From June through September, HLCC Learning Center has group and private classes within Capital Paradise. Western/Chinese cooking classes are also available. Contact halide@hlcc.asia for information.
* It’s the time of year to consider teacher gifts, good-bye presents and other such special ways to express your appreciation and friendship. For those who love jewelry, check out Shayne’s Treasures and Clicia’s Designs for new Murano glass pendants and earrings – beautiful, unique and budget friendly! Their store is located in Lakeview Place next to Dragon Bay Villas.
