Everyone is BUSY these days, winding down the school year and making plans for the summer, yet there is surprisingly little news to tell. Please share any tidbits of news you might have for the Shunyi area – new stores or restaurants, special events and the like. We all want to know!
*Those of you familiar with the old Pomegranate hutong location between Gahood and Yosemite will be happy to know there is now another café in that same spot with outdoor dining. Welcome to Pomme O’Sheas – co-owned by an Irishman with a lovely accent who waited our tables personally. This place is so new that printed menus aren’t yet available, so you can select your food by reading their hand-written paper or just by listening to your choices. Brick-oven pizzas are a specialty, as are many types of sandwiches with fries (toasted club, burgers, etc.) and filled pastry pies – vegetable, beef or chicken. A perfect head on a pint of Guinness makes the visit complete. Check it out!
*Actually, check it out this weekend on Saturday, May 28 beginning at noon (until late) during an Annual Music Festival in aid of Care for Children. This “Rynostock” event will feature 17 live bands on two stages, BBQ and drinks – fun for the family; 20 RMB donation at the door.
*Awhile back I wrote a blog about good customer service. Sometimes we find here that local establishments over-promise and under-deliver, so it’s a pleasure when you run into truly good customer service. Joanna, a jeweler, had been working out of her home designing beautiful pieces for many expat customers. She had a baby a few months ago and rested before pursing her dream of opening a store. Now she’s done just that! Come visit her at the end of May in the newly opened store on the 2nd floor of Euro Plaza or call her at 136 8118 8285. She’s begun to show at local bazaars, and I saw many people interested in her pieces for bringing back home as gifts. The quality is there and the service is worth the trip.
*Mercurius World Travel has not only their regular “popular” packages such as the Silk Road, Tibet & Nepal, Xi’an, Vietnam, Pingyao and more, but they now have a special Adventure Package for a great summer vacation! For four days/three nights, going on a luxury tented camp trip (this is a Four Seasons camp, so you aren’t roughing it), ride elephants, and enjoy this unforgettable, exotic vacation. Visit Mercurius in the River Garden clubhouse, or call 5139 6161.
