Wen Jiabao dunks … well, OK so it’s more of a layup, and the hoop is only about 6 feet off the ground. Not bad for a 68-year-old though! Photo from Xinhua
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao spend yesterday’s Children’s Day at a Beijing primary school extolling the virtues of physical education and joining the students for 40 minutes of drills, according to a Xinhua report.
Sporting the traditional black socks-and-running shoes combo, Wen practiced ball handling skills with 6th graders, then played a quick round of 3-on-3. Not too shabby for a 68-year-old guy!
Wen’s message to the kids of Shibalidian Primary School in Chaoyang District was to spend at least 1 hour a day engaged in physical fitness — sound advice for a nation of children that are quickly rising in the ranks of the developed world in terms of childhood obesity.
"Only when children are healthy, can the country have a good future," Wen was quoted as saying. "We must keep a healthy body in order to better serve the people."
