Pantry Magic’s website proclaims August as the return date for Beijing
Best news I’ve heard all day: Pantry Magic, the high-end kitchen equipment retailer chain that called Nali Patio its Beijing home for several years before closing up shop earlier this year, will reopen August 1 in the Gongti-area building that houses Counting Sheep Boutique and the Bodhi Therapeutic Retreat.
It will be a welcome return for this international retailer of premium imported kitchen goodies. Over its years of operation in Beijing I’ve personally picked up such choice hard-to-find gear as holiday cookie cutters and latex baking pans, as well as spent many an afternoon longing after even fancier stuff that’s beyond what my tiny apartment kitchen could accommodate.
Sure it’s pricey and knockoffs of some of the gear can be found in some of the huge markets in the dingier areas of Beijing, but nothing beat a dose of retail therapy at Pantry Magic for cooking equipment fanatics such as myself.
The store also hosted a number of small-scale cooking demonstrations that gave it a nice community feel … let’s hope the new location keeps up the tradition.
If you haven’t been to either Bodhi or Counting Sheep, they’re easy to spot, just across from the the north gate of Worker’s Stadium at 17 Gongti Beilu.
