New Speech Therapist at Eliott’s Corner
Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) Amy Rose is joining Eliott’s Corner. Rose comes straight from the US with 20 years of experience as an SLP, treating speech and language disorders for children, ranging from preschool to high school.
Care for Children Has Moved
In addition to their new location in River Garden (see Directory under Schools), Care for Children Special Education School and Family Services Clinic welcomes new Clinic Director Jason Tam and new Assistant Director Nina Zhang. Tam has previously helped develop a clinic at the Lang Feng Red Cross hospital and since 2008, he has been training and facilitating physiotherapy workshops for orphanages around China for the Care for Children’s National Foster Care Project. Zhang has been working for Care for Children since last year as a training officer, training orphanages around China in the area of child psychology and trauma. She also comes with a wealth of experience, having worked for Peking University Institute of Mental Health and UNICEF.
New Secondary Principal at BISS
Danielle Fredericks will be the new Secondary School Principal at Beijing BISS International School. Originally from Victoria, Australia, Fredericks has spent the past 14 years as a teacher and administrator at International School Manila in the Philippines and at Taipei American School. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and History, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Melbourne, and is certified in International School Leadership from the Principals’ Training Center in London and Miami. She enjoys singing, playing the violin and has two cats in Beijing.
New Principal at House of Knowledge
Originally from Austria, Angela Cariappa will be joining House of Knowledge as the new head of both Beijing campuses. A mother of two (Pia, 3 years old and Lara, 20 months) and having worked in education in six different countries (most recently in India), she is sure to bring lots of “spice” to the already vibrant Early Childhood program at HoK.
New Wares at Counting Sheep
Counting Sheep is excited to announce three new product lines to their store, website and Taobao.com: Petit Terrailan feeding products, Baby Bjorn feeding
and travel products, and Little Chic furniture. Petit Terrailan is a French company that makes BPA-free bottles, bottle sterilizers and warmers, and an all-in-one food processor to puree baby foods. Baby Bjorn makes bibs, plates and cutlery, as well as travel cribs and Babysitter Balance – an infant bouncer. The store will also have Little Chic, furniture designed in style and safety for ages 5 and up. Pieces available include tables, chairs, bookcases and playroom furniture. It is made of solid wood and painted with environmentally friendly paint.
WAB Welcomes A New Director
Geoffrey Andrews rings in the school year as the Director of the Western Academy of Beijing. Andrews comes from Oberlin, Ohio, US where he served as Superintendent of the Oberlin School District for five years. He began his career in 1983 as a computer science and mathematics teacher, and has taught at various grade levels for twenty-three years in both public and private education. He has relocated to Beijing with his wife Cindy, and his daughter Rachael, who will be joining Grade 10 at WAB. His son Michael attends college in the US.
