IAB Welcomes Benjamin Ketz
International Academy of Beijing has expanded its AP program and also welcomes Benjamin Ketz to their faculty. As a chemistry and AP chemistry teacher, Ketz comes to IAB with a BS from Penn State and a MS in chemistry. Most recently, he worked as a polymer scientist for Polymics in the US. As a teacher, he hopes his students not only learn, but learn to think like
scientists.
CLCB in Shunyi Has Expanded
The Children’s Learning Center of Beijing (CLCB) in Shunyi’s Gahood Villa expanded its premises last month, offering more space for children, ages 18 months to 3 years, to learn and play. The center has a private playground,
designed for smaller kids, as well as a new building next door for children, ages 3 to 6 years of age. Academic-based classes are offered in writing, reading and mathematics – and are open to children who fall short of the minimum age requirement at international schools. There is also a new dance studio that houses Renee Learning Center, which offers an array of dance classes run by CLCB’s dance teacher Renee. Dulwich Photo Competition
During the summer, Dulwich College Beijing’s community participated in a photo competition with the theme, “Building bridges to the world.” Jane Neimann’s photo (above), shot in Houhai, was the winning photo amongst over 170 entries. In addition, student Melissa Chan and Norbert Dudek received honorable mentions for their photos in Singapore (bottom right) and Budapest (bottom left), respectively.
WAB’s New Elementary School Principal
The Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) is pleased to welcome new Elementary School Principal, Casey Cosgray. A skilled education leader from the US, she is committed to excellence in teaching, curricula, and lifelong learning. She is joined here in Beijing by her husband, Bruce, a new design technology technician in WAB’s High School, and their two children, Natalie and Bruce, both of whom are attending WAB Middle School. BCIS Certified as an SAT Test Center
Beijing City International School (BCIS) is now certified to act as an SAT test center, allowing all their enrolled students, from all nationalities to take this important examination. 2011 SAT test dates and registration information can be found in the Parent/Student handbook or by consulting the high school guidance counselor. Registration forms are available from the high school counseling office in Room 2302.
ISB’s New High School Principal
The International School of Beijing (ISB) welcomes Dr. Paul Wood as the new High School Principal. This will be Dr. Wood’s eighteenth year overseas and has held teaching and administrative positions in Canada, Japan, Tanzania, and China. Dr. Wood will fit right in at ISB, with his unbounded vision and passion for world class teaching.
