The cooler fall temperatures are upon us, and there are several events to look forward to in our Shunyi neighborhood. Also, many changes around here this season! If you hear of new developments, please pass along the information!
Fall Events
*The 6th annual Green Cow Harvest Fest will be held on Sunday, October 23 from 11-4pm (rain date, October 30). Celebrate organic farming and enjoy the day with the entire family, complete with games and activities (the corn maze is a must!), folk art, demos and more. Tickets are RMB 50 each and can purchased at Mrs. Shanen’s or by e-mailing thelovelygreencow@gmail.com.
*The Halloween Party of the year is making its way to Shunyi this year! Join beijingkids magazine for spooks and fun at the Halloween Costume Brunch Ball, held at the Hilton Beijing Capital Airport on Saturday, October 29 from 11:30am-2pm. Click here for all of the details – don’t miss it!
News and Developments
*Jenny Wang has just introduced a “Store Value Card” available for regular customers. Fill out the form to receive your card (it just asks for basic contact information) and choose the amount you want to put on your pre-paid card. For a RMB 3,000 card, you will receive an extra RMB 100; for RMB 5,000, an extra RMB 300; and for RMB 10,000, an extra RMB 600 put on your card immediately. Simply use this pre-paid card each time you shop at Jenny’s, and enjoy the extra 3-6% for free!
*Kids + is expanding! Within the next week, Shunyi residents will now find an additional location in the Pinnacle Avenue center (near McDonald’s, A – Z Kids, and Beijing Rego British School).Check it out!

*The village that houses such great places such as Roundabout, Radiance, Tasty’s and Mrs. Shanen’s is nearing demolition, some say as early as the end of October. Mrs. Shanen’s is ready, should it come about that soon. The renowned organic eatery has a Plan B in place, relocating to the Roma Lake area of restaurants, next to Malacca Legend. They will NOT move until demolition begins, though, so continue to come and enjoy their food at the regular location until further notice!
*Paul’s Steak & Eggs in the River Garden clubhouse will feature an End of Summer BBQ from 4:30-7pm on Saturday, October 15. There will be an all-you-can-eat salad bar, imported New York Steak with baked potato, green beans, and a variety of desserts. The kids menu includes BBQ hot dogs or burgers with fries, beverage and ice cream. Adults are RMB 109; kids 10 and under are RMB 35. *Paul will also be preparing Thanksgiving dinners, for in house dining or whole turkeys/hams to go. More information on this as the holiday approaches.
*Noticed that The Shoe Doctor in Pinnacle Plaza is gone. He used to be attached to the local shoe store by Johnson’s Computers. It was a very small store, but he was always available to shine shoes, sell shoelaces, or fix minor repairs. And it was convenient. The only other place I know of nearby is in the Riviera Plaza above Jenny Lou’s. Does anyone know of other shoe repair locations?

*New workshops are available at The Learning Center. Students in grades 5 and 6 can consider Integrated Reading and Writing (Sat., 9:30am-12:30pm); Critical Thinking and Author Study (Sat., 1:30-3pm; or Performance and Introduction to Drama (Sat., 3-4pm). *Looking for a preschool for your child? The Children’s Learning Center of Beijing (CLCB) is a bilingual school (English and Mandarin) located in Gahood Villas. They recently opened a new Preparatory class for kids from 5-6 ½ years old. This academic-structured class will focus on beginning reading, writing and mathematics, very much in line with what children learn during their first year of school (i.e., kindergarten). *A variety of swimming and water aerobics classes are available at the Lane Bridge Clubhouse, for all ages and levels. Every Thursday the schedule is: 9-10am and 10-11am, water aerobics; 3:30-4pm, level 1 (3-4yrs); 4:15-4:45pm, level 2 (5-6 yrs); 5-:530pm, level 3 (7-8 yrs). Water Aerobics – Toning and Cardio classes are also held at Capital Paradise from 7-8pm. Water aerobics classes are RMB 100 each or RMB 500 for a six punch pass. Swimming lessons are RMB 400 for a six week course from October 13-November 17.
