This week at the International School of Beijing, elementary students had the opportunity to meet Korky Paul, book illustrator extraordinaire of the Winnie the Witch book series. Kids were excited to learn about his trade, as well as share stories and even soak up some art lessons. Paul shared with the students the importance of using one’s imagination and having fun to illustrate one’s thinking. All week long, the kids prepared poems, cards and original illustrations to share with their special guest.
To cap off the week, elementary school students will come to school dressed as their favorite Korky Paul character, be it Winnie from the biggest series, or one of his other colorful characters. Learn more about this award-winning illustrator by visiting www.korkypaul.com.
A highlight for students and parents was a book signing, with plenty of book titles available for purchase at the school thanks to Star Kids Children’s Bookstore. But just because this was an ISB sponsored event doesn’t mean that others can’t enjoy these books, too — possibly even signed by Korky Paul!
Located in Riverville Square (near the British Rego School and Dulwich College), Star Kids Children’s Bookstore has an incredible selection of Korky Paul illustrated books, among many other titles. Kids can peruse the paperback story books – 12 titles in the series – for RMB 70, or choose hard and soft cover collections for RMB 100-125. Chapter books for the older reader are RMB 55, and a fantastic hardcover six-story volume that “cackles” when you open the cover is RMB 145. The bookstore will have a limited amount of autographed copies of Winnie Under the Sea, the most recent title in the series, available for purchase at their store location. It’s a great time to think about holiday gifts!
In addition, for anyone who visits the store and purchases Korky Paul books, be sure to mention this blog! You will receive a special limited edition Winnie the Witch poster and bookmark as a free gift (while supplies last).
Star Kids has many special book promotions, author events and book fairs for their customers. On September 16 they launched the Guinness Book of World Records 2012 (they still have copies available), and coming up on November 15, they are excited to launch the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever (book 6 in the series).
